Farmers’ March from Nashik to Mumbai

Mumbai – More than 30,000 farmers are marching from Nashik to Mumbai on foot. They are protesting against anti-farmer policies of state and central government. Waiving of loan and electricity bills, implementation of Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations are their major demands. All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) is leading the protesting farmers. Farmers are also opposite to the idea of linking rivers in Maharashtra and Gujarat; farmers fear that the scheme will submerge many villages in Nashik, Thane and Palghar.

The march began from Nashik on Wednesday evening, they are covering the distance of around 200 km on foot. They aim to reach to Mumbai on 12th March when they will gherao the assembly to push for their demands.
